CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Section 1:       10th Street/Miley Avenue to 19th Street/Lafayette Road

                        Tentative Schedule: Ongoing through December 2010

Tunneling and structure construction for the new sewer continues along Lafayette Road between 16th and 19th streets.  

Lane restrictions on Lafayette Road are scheduled to continue until December, and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. Tenth Street at Miley Avenue is scheduled to be closed from late July until late October for new sewer and structure construction. Section 2:         19th Street/Lafayette Road to 2700 Cold Spring Road

Tentative Schedule: Ongoing through August 2010

The road closure on Cold Spring Road from Lafayette Road to the 2700 block (Granada Circle) is underway. The street will be closed to through traffic, allowing local access only. The official detour is Lafayette Road to Kessler Boulevard to 30th Street.

Section 3:         2700 Cold Spring Road to Grandview Drive/Fox Hill Drive

Tentative Schedule: Ongoing through December 2011      

Merryman Excavation will continue the Septic Tank Elimination Program (STEP) and storm water improvements at 59th Street and Grandview Drive through July. Construction of the force main sewer will occur mainly along 44th Street, Knollton Road and 51st Street.

The contractor has completed the pipe installation along 30th Street and Cold Spring Road and has begun restoration, including the installation of the trail.

Installation of the force main sewer pipe on North White River Parkway West Drive has shifted to north of I-65. Riverside Golf Course can be accessed from 30th Street, and the Riverside Academy can be accessed from 38th Street. Construction and road closures along White River Parkway West Drive will continue through July.

In addition, force main construction has started on 51st Street from Knollton Road to Michigan Road. Access to homes on 51st Street will shift from Michigan Road to Knollton Road as the construction progresses. It is anticipated that the force main construction will cross Michigan Road in early July.

The gravity sewer along Grandview Drive, just west of Michigan Road is complete. However, the road closure for Grandview Drive from Michigan Road to Kessler Boulevard is still in effect, as force main construction will follow in late July. The street will be closed to through traffic, allowing local access only. The official detour is Michigan Road to Kessler Boulevard. Construction of the storm sewer along Grandview Drive should be complete by the end of July. Efforts will continue to alleviate ponding and water collection on private property.

The water main relocation at Grandview Drive and 54th Street, as well as connection to the new main sewer, has been completed.

The contractor is scheduled to complete Section 3 by December 2011. Visit the project website for traffic information including traffic maps, details on road closures, lane restrictions and posted detours.

Section 4:        Juan Solomon Park lift station and Coffin Golf Course flow transition building

Tentative Schedule: Ongoing through October 2011

FA Wilhelm Construction Company has mobilized at Juan Solomon Park. The contractor set up field office trailers and delivered materials and equipment to the job site. The 18 inch storm drain pipe from the rain garden along Grandview Avenue has been installed along with temporary dewatering wells, used to lower the groundwater level.

The contractor also began mass excavation for the new lift station, approximately 14 feet below ground level and poured concrete piers in preparation for relocation of the existing picnic shelter. Dewatering wells have been added in the park’s west parking lot in preparation for the installation of the 48 inch gravity sewer.

Work at Coffin Golf Course is scheduled to begin on or after October 1, and the contractor intends to begin tree removal at this location in the coming weeks.
